Beach Volleyball Preview: At Chattanooga with North Alabama

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNCW's beach volleyball team rounds out it's spring break trip on Thursday against host Chattanooga and North Alabama at the UTC Sports Complex.

The Seahawks, who at 7-3 are off to the second best start in program history, take on the host Mocs at noon and close out the day with a 2 p.m. start against UNA.

UNCW swept Eckerd earlier this week in St. Petersburg by the scores of 4-1 and 3-2 to improve to 7-3 on the season. After rolling to a win in the first dual, the Seahawks found themselves trailing the Tritons, 2-0, after opening the second dual with back-to-back three-set losses at the fourth and fifth pairings.

Grace Sistrunk and Ashley Thompson ignited the comeback with a convincing 21-4, 21-10 win at the second pairing and third pairing of Ellie Bucci and Tessa Rogers drew the Seahawks even at 2-all with a 21-14, 21-17 win.

Mattie Johnson and Sadie Sharkey would give the Seahawks the dual win with a 21-16 in the first set and edged the Tritons in the second set, 23-21.

UNCW blanked UTC, 5-0, during the 2020 season in the only meeting between the two programs.

Following Thursday's duals, the Seahawks return to home to face Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader on Mar. 15 at 1 p.m.
