Beach Volleyball Preview: at Eckerd

Seahawks and Tritons will play a doubleheader on Tuesday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It's a short turnaround for the UNCW Beach Volleyball program when they face off with Eckerd College on Tuesday in a doubleheader at the North Shore Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

The Seahawks (5-3) are coming off a 1-3 weekend at the FAU Beach Burrow Bash, where they faced nationally-ranked Florida Atlantic as well as ASUN-member Florida Gulf Coast, which was receiving votes in the most recent AVCA Beach Volleyball Coaches Poll.

UNCW knocked off Austin Peay last weekend with a 5-0 blanking of the Governors for the lone win of the tournament.

Highlighting UNCWs early season play has been the pairing of sophomore Ellie Bucci and Tessa Rogers, a freshman, who has produced a 6-2 mark through eight duals and recently moved into the third pairing in the lineup.

Also enjoying some early success has been the pairing of Holly Cornelius and Brianna Haggerty, both of who are making their beach debuts after playing with the indoor program in the fall. The duo has posted a 5-3 mark, primarily at the third pairing.

Eckerd has gotten off to a slow start after dropping all four of its duals at the Battle on the Bay tournament last weekend. The Tritons dropped duals to Division foes College of Charleston and Missouri State as well as to fellow Division II members Tampa and Saint Leo.

The Seahawks head to Chattanooga later this week for duals against the host Mocs as well as North Alabama.
