Winning Streak Halted, But UNCW Sets Wins Mark

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – UNCW saw its program-record winning streak halted at eight duals in a 3-2 loss to Charleston but set a program record with its 14th win of the season later in the day on Friday at the CofC Beach Blast.

The Seahawks shutout Huntingdon College later in the day to improve to 14-4 on the season, eclipsing the previous record of 13 wins set, in 2017.

Against CofC, UNCW earned a split of the first two matches with Maddy Folks and Jadyn Barry winning in three sets.

In the third pairing, CofC's Maria Zweig and Emma Falk gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead with a 21-19, 21-19 win over Ellie Bucci and Tessa Rogers. The setback was the first in seven matches for Bucci and Rogers.

Mattie Johnson and Sadie Sharkey evened the dual with a three-set win in the first pairing.

The Cougars won the dual with a victory in the second pairing, the third of five matches to go three sets. Amani Dunston and Sofie Vogel topped Ashley Thompson and Grace Sistrunk, 15-8, to clinch the dual.

In the second dual of the day, UNCW cruised past Huntingdon, 5-0, and did not lose a set.

The Seahawks play Tusculum and Erskine at 8:30 and 11a.m. to end their tournament appearance on Saturday.
