Ten Home Duals Highlight Beach Volleyball Schedule

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ten home duals, including a pair of tournaments, highlight UNCW's beach volleyball schedule for the 2022 season which was announced on Tuesday.

"We are so excited to start beach season," said second-year Head Coach Dottie Hampton. "We have a group of talented young women who work hard and are getting better each day. Now that we are in the ASUN Conference, this will give us a chance to play top level competition and compete at a high level."

The Seahawks open their season hosting Catawba and Stevenson in a two-day double-round robin tournament on Feb. 26-27 at Capt'n Bill's Backyard Grill & Volleyball Facility in Wilmington.

The second home tournament for UNCW at Capt'n Bill's Backyard Grill & Volleyball Facility will be Mar. 19-20 when it hosts Mercer, College of Charleston and Liberty. The field will play a round robin on Saturday followed by a pairs tournament on Sunday.

UNCW and Eastern Kentucky will play a pair of duals at Capt'n Bills on Mar. 15.

The Seahawks visit Florida in early March for a tournament at Florida Atlantic on Mar. 4-5 and a then visit Eckerd on March 8 for a pair of duals.

On that same trip, UNCW will take on North Alabama and host Chattanooga in duals on Mar. 10 at UT Chattanooga.

Other tournaments include Charleston Beach Classic (Mar. 25-26), Carolina Challenge, in Columbia, S.C., on Apr. 1-2 and a tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina o Apr. 8-9.

UNCW's final tune up prior to the ASUN Tournament will be single duals against Morehead State and Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Apr. 12.

"We've got a ton of newcomers, with many being freshmen and redshirt freshmen, but they are full of energy," said Associate Head Coach David Fischer. "They're hungry to compete. Our returners are mature and seem to enjoy teaching.

"We're looking forward to visiting a blend of familiar foes and some places we've never been as we prepare for the ASUN Tournament.

"Being able to host three events at Capt'n Bills is exciting for the student-athletes and our local supporters. It's a great game that's continuing to grow in the community."  

The Seahawks joined the ASUN in July of 2021 following five seasons in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. Huntsville, Ala., will serve as host of the postseason tournament on Apr. 22-25.
