Beach Volleyball Finishes Off Weekend Sweep

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW closed out its opening weekend with a pair of shutout wins over Stevenson and Catawba on Sunday at Capt'n Bill's Volleyball Facility.

The Seahawks closed out their weekend with a 4-0 mark while Stevenson and Catawba were 2-2 and 0-4, respectively.

Against Stevenson, Ellie Bucci and Tessa Rogers opened the dual with a 21-8, 21-14 at the fourth pairing and Tyla Cutrie and Kaley McLaughlin followed with a 24-19, 21-19 win at the fifth pairing.

Mattie Johnson, a preseason All-Sun Conference honoree, teamed with Ashley Thompson for a 21-11, 21-17 dual-clinching win at the first pairing.

Bucci and Rogers fashioned another dominant win at the fourth pairing, 21-, 21-7. Grace Sistrunk and Sadie Sharkey provided the dual clincher with a 21-8, 21-12 win at the second pairing.

Next up for the Seahawks is the FAU Beach Burrow Bash on Mar. 4-5, in Boca Raton, Fla. UNCW opens with Palm Beach Atlantic and ASun-member Florida Gulf Coast on the first day.
