Seahawks Win Two Events At JDL Meet

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – UNCW collected two event wins and qualified another student-athlete for the upcoming ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday in the JDL DMR Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
 
Senior Gabby Ryan and sophomore Rebekah Smith notched wins in action on Saturday. Ryan won the Long Jump with a leap of 17-10.75 for her first collegiate victory, while Smith took gold in the High Jump with a mark of 5-3.
 
Senior Brynn Sheffield climbed into the top-10 on the school's all-time list in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.75. She now ranks eighth on the school's chart.
 
"I'm really proud of how our women competed," said third-year UNCW head coach Jeff Klaves. "They really fought and were super competitive."
 
Five Seahawks will compete in six events when they travel to Boston on Mar. 4-6, 2022, to compete in the ECAC Championships.
 
The outdoor season begins on Saturday, Mar. 5, 2022, with the UNCW Invitational at the Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.
