Hunter Ties School Mark In Triple Jump

LYNCHBURG, Virginia – Sophomore Jayda Hunter tied the school record in the Triple Jump to highlight UNCW's finishes on Saturday as the UNCW women's track and field indoor team wrapped up its appearance in the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

The meet was hosted by Liberty University at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

Hunter, from Jacksonville, N.C., matched the record set by teammate Tori Whimple one week ago on the same oval during competition in the Liberty Open. The versatile Hunter opened the day with her performance of 39-00.50 on the first attempt to punch her ticket to the ECAC Indoor Championships in Boston.

"I always try to approach every meet with a clear, positive mindset," said Hunter. "This weekend, I had a goal that was very simple: go out there, jump how I know I can and just let it come naturally."

Junior Courtney Lines turned in another outstanding day on Saturday. The Leland, N.C. product finished fifth in the 60 Meter Dash with another 7.68 time, good for fourth best all-time. Lines also posted personal best marks in the shot put (34-08.50) and high jump (5-04.50).

Freshman Janiyah Fields won her heat and ran a personal best time (25.85) in the 200 Meter Dash and another newcomer, Nasiah Ferguson, clocked a 59.58 to win her heat and set an indoor personal best in the 400 Meters.

Sophomore Kendall Hobbs enjoyed an impressive run in the 3,000 Meters, setting a personal best time of 10:26, more than a second lower than her time one year ago.

"We continue to push the mark in more ways than one," said Jeff Klaves, UNCW's third-year head coach "This team is learning what it means to compete at a high level. The most valuable things right now are opportunities and chances to learn.

"The energy on the team in contagious. We're excited about coaching this group and continuing to build momentum."
