Falck, Rasamatov Post Big Wins At ITA Regional

CARY, North Carolina – Junior Reece Falck moved on in the main draw of singles and junior Bekhzod Rasamatov upset the top seed for the second straight year as the UNCW men's tennis team wrapped up opening day action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Regional on Friday at the Cary Tennis Park.
 
Playing two rounds of singles in the main draw and one round in the consolations, the Seahawks fashioned an 8-8 record.
 
Falck knocked off opponents from Campbell and N.C. State to reach the Round of 32 in singles action. He topped Campbell's Damien Nezar, 6-4, 6-4, in his first match and trimmed N.C. State's Damien Salvestre, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 64.
 
Rasamatov, from Tushkent, Uzbekistan, stunned Wake Forest junior and No. 1 seeded Filippo Moroni, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, in his opening match before falling to Campbell's Lukas Steffen, 6-4, 6-0. Moroni, a Third-Team All-ACC honoree, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Singles Championships last spring.
 
In addition to the Seahawks, other schools competing include Campbell, Charleston, Charlotte, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Duke, Elon, Furman, Gardner-Webb, North Carolina, North Carolina A&T, UNC Asheville, North Carolina Central, N.C. State, Presbyterian, South Carolina, South Carolina State, The Citadel, Queens University, Wake Forest, and Wofford.
 
Play continues on Saturday with singles and doubles at the Cary Tennis Park.
