LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UNCW men's tennis team finished third overall at the Liberty Dual Tournament after posting a 2-1 record against three nationally competitive opponents over the weekend.

"Liberty puts on a great event with some of the top teams in the country", said head coach Mait DuBois. "Also gives us a chance in the fall to experience more of a team format.  Drew Hayduke going 3-0 in his first college competition since his injury last November, playing the last match at the No. 1 position is a great sign for where he is headed. We had a couple of freshmen with some great results in JP Coello and Gabriel Jacquemin. Also, newcomer Noah Zeiger with 2 excellent wins in 3 sets.  Really am loving the fighting character of this team and excited to get ready for our Regional event in 2 weeks."

The Seahawks opened the weekend with a 9-4 victory over VCU on Friday before facing No. 44 Penn on Saturday, going 7-5. UNCW closed the weekend with an 8-3 victory over UNC Charlotte to finish with a winning record across the three-day event.

A major highlight for the Seahawks was the return of senior Andrew Hayduke, who went 3-0 in singles in his first competition since suffering an injury last November. Hayduke opened the weekend with a three-set victory over VCU's Consonni, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, before defeating Penn's Markowitz, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, on Saturday. He completed the weekend with a straight-set win over Charlotte's Media, 6-2, 6-3, on Sunday while competing at the No. 1 position.

Freshman Gabriel Jacquemin also turned in a strong weekend in doubles, finishing 2-0 alongside two different partners. Jacquemin and Brady Hussey earned a 6-3 victory over Penn's Chodura/Bain on Saturday before Jacquemin and freshman Alejandro Pena teamed up for a 6-2 win over Charlotte's Dimenna/Dayon on Sunday.

UNCW also received strong performances from several other players throughout the weekend. Noah Zeiger picked up two three-set singles victories, defeating Penn's Spurling, 7-6 (7), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), on Saturday before earning a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Charlotte's Muenster on Sunday. Tomas Marin added three singles wins, including a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 comeback against VCU's Volesky.

Freshman Jose Pablo Coello also contributed a singles win against VCU, while Alex de Gabriele posted singles victories against VCU and Charlotte. Jordi Domenech added wins against VCU and Penn, while Brady Hussey earned singles victories against VCU and Charlotte.

In doubles, UNCW earned three wins against VCU and two victories against both Penn and Charlotte. Domenech and William Dean went 2-1 across the weekend, while Marin and Coello also collected two doubles wins.

The Seahawks return to action at the ITA Regional Championship on Oct. 8 through the 12^th, hosted by South Carolina.
