Seahawks Open Indoor T&F Season At VMI

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's indoor track and field team makes its season debut this weekend with an appearance in VMI's Keydet Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va.

The meet is the first of five regular season indoor competitions for UNCW's women. The Seahawks and third-year head coach Jeff Klaves will carry 20 student-athletes to the two-day meet, which runs Friday and Saturday.

"We're excited about opening the indoor season at VMI," said Klaves. "We're looking forward to showcasing the work we've put in so far. School record holder Tori Whimple (triple jump) and a deep women's jumps crew will headline the first day and everyone will be hitting the track in some capacity on the second day of action.

"We're small, but elite, and we expect everyone to make an impact and play a role. We're all very excited to be back on the track to compete."

Overall, 12 teams will be competing this weekend. In addition to UNCW and the host Keydets, the other teams at the meet include Bridgewater, Christopher Newport, Columbia International, Concord, George Washington, Marshall, Queens, Radford, UNC Asheville and Washington & Lee.
