Beach Volleyball Preview: Palmetto Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – UNCW carries a two-dual winning streak into the final regular season tournament of the season this weekend when it competes at the Palmetto Invitational hosted by South Carolina.

The Seahawks (5-9) open their weekend on Friday with a 5 p.m. start against the host and 16th-ranked Gamecocks (18-7). The two met earlier this season in Conway, S.C., with South Carolina winning, 5-0.

UNCW will also play Erskine (4-15) and the College of Charleston (8-10-1) on Saturday. The Seahawks and CofC will be meeting for a fifth time this season with the Cougars having won three duals.

UNCW visited Stevenson last weekend and won both duals by the score of 5-0.

Ashley Thompson, who also played with the indoor program this spring, owns a 4-6 mark in 10 matches all played at the first pairing.

Rachel Schaffer and Reagan Evans are tied for the team lead with six wins apiece. Elena Turnbull is 5-5 including a 4-2 mark between the third and fourth pairings.

The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championship tournament is up next for UNCW. The tournament will be held in Huntsville, Ala., beginning on Apr. 23.
