Beach Volleyball: Weekend Preview

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After almost one year from its last competition, UNCW's beach volleyball returns to the courts this weekend when it plays four duals in Jacksonville, Fla., at the North Florida Duals.

All four matches will have live results and the link for those matches can be found here: UNCWSports.com/coverage.

The Seahawks open the season on Friday with an 8 a.m. start against host North Florida before rounding out their day's action with a 12:45 p.m. start against the College of Charleston. The Charleston match will be the first of four duals between the programs this spring.

Leading the Seahawks this weekend is Ashley Thompson, who is pulling double duty this spring playing both indoor and beach. Thompson went 4-5 her freshman season with the beach program playing in the second pairing. She will be joined by Casey Godwin, who is in her second season with the program and making the transition from the indoor game.

Joining the lineup this weekend are Tyla Cutrie and Ellie Bucci along with Rachel Schaffer and Reagan Evans. Cutrie and Bucci have blended well in the preseason while Schaffer and Evans are strong defensively.

UNCW wraps up the weekend on Saturday against Erskine and Mercer.
