WILMINGTON, N.C. –
Jacob Evans, a senior, led three UNCW men's soccer student-athletes who were named All-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday.
Evans, who earned first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors for the third time in the fall, was named to the second team while
Gabriel Perrotta, a junior, and
Michael Hornsby, a senior, earned third-team honors at keeper and defense, respectively.
"I am pleased that the guys were recognized as top players in our competitive Atlantic region," said UNCW Head Coach
Aidan Heaney. "Jacob and Michael depart UNCW having been outstanding representatives of our program and university. They forged a tremendous understanding on the left side of our side and were fun to watch! Gabriel had some strong games for us this fall and was a leader at the back."
Evans, who earned all-region first-team honors last spring, notched a pair of goals this past season and tied for the program-lead with a career-high tying seven assists. His goals came in important games, both being wins, against nationally ranked North Carolina and Northeastern.
Perrotta and Hornsby keyed the UNCW defense during the fall. Perrotta started all 17 games in earning second-team All-CAA honors for a third consecutive season. He posted six shutouts for a second straight season and moved into fourth this season on UNCW's career shutout list with 20.
Hornsby rounds out the all-region honorees and is a first-time all-region honoree. He tied Evans for the team-lead with seven assists, a career high. Hornsby was a second-team All-CAA selection.
