UNCW Opens CAA Tournament at Campbell

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The No. 3-seed UNCW men's soccer team makes its league-record-extending 29th Coastal Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament appearance when it opens the South Division First Round at No. 2-seed Campbell on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The Seahawks (5-8-2) and Fighting Camels (9-5-4) meet for the third game this season and fourth time overall after the first match on Sept. 6 was not completed until Oct. 29 due to rain. UNCW has won both contests this season by one-goal margins.

Thursday's match will be streamed exclusively on FloCollege with live stats available at UNCWStats.com.

Both Seahawk victories against Campbell have come thanks to braces by Christian Acevedo, who engineered a two-goal comeback in UNCW's home finale, and Bryan Miralrio, whose two-goal effort pushed the Seahawks into the playoffs last Wednesday in Buies Creek.

UNCW begins postseason play in search of its second-ever CAA Tournament Championship after its run to the CAA Finals one year ago. The sixth and lowest-seeded team in the 2024 field, the Seahawks knocked off Monmouth in penalty kicks, Drexel at home and were 10 minutes away from overtime in the 2024 Final before falling to Hofstra, 1-0, in Detailsthe championship round.

Among the key returners from last year's postseason run are 2025 CAA Co-Defender of the Year Jake Shannon, also an All-First Teamer, along with Second-Team honoree Osei Gyamfi and All-Third selections in seniors Jack Clarkson and Ethan Newsome, along with Acevedo.

Shannon anchors a backline comprised of All-CAA Third Teamer Gavin Carmichael as well as freshman Benjamin Gooding, who, along with forward Amare Lucas, earned CAA All-Rookie notice.

The winner of Thursday's match will advance to the CAA Semifinals at Elon, the top-seed in the South Division, on Sunday at 6 p.m. The South Final victor will move on to the CAA Finals on Nov. 15.
