Shannon Inks Pro Contract with New England Revolution II

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW men's soccer standout defender Jake Shannon will begin his professional career with New England Revolution II after signing a contract with the MLS NEXT Pro team ahead of the 2026 season, as announced by the club on Monday afternoon.

Shannon, a four-time All-Coastal Athletic Association selection, including a First Team nod this past fall, completed his degree in Business Administration last semester with a sterling 3.80 GPA. He was named a 2025 Academic All-American Second Teamer in mid-December.

The 2025 CAA Co-Defender of the Year played every minute of all 16 games last fall. Shannon anchored a backline that produced three shutouts this season and scored a career-high three goals, including the game-winner against Charleston, to go with a pair of assists.

The UNCW team captain was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team in 2025 after polishing off a phenomenal four-year collegiate career that included a start in all possible contests, where Shannon played all but one minute since joining the Seahawks in 2022. The Apex, N.C., native helped UNCW to three CAA Tournaments, including last year's dramatic run to the CAA Finals.

Shannon is fourth in program history with 6,219 minutes played. With New England, he will work with a UNCW Athletic Hall of Famer in Revolution II Goalkeeper Coach Brad Knighton.

Founded in 2019, New England Revolution II, the development team of Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, played its inaugural season in 2020 in USL League One. Revolution II joined the MLS NEXT Pro league for its inaugural campaign in 2022.

Revolution II play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
