Swimming & Diving Take Three CAA Honors

Seahawks recognized for strong performances to open the season

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshmen Will Barker and Reece Alexander joined junior Courtney Klausen in earning Colonial Athletic Association swimming and diving honors the league announced on Tuesday.

Barker owns the league's top times in the backstroke events following strong outings against Army West Point and Tennessee to open the season. Barker swept the 100 and 200 Backstrokes in his collegiate debut against Army. His 100 time in that meet was a conference-best 49.69 seconds, ranking ninth all-time at UNCW. Against Tennessee, he finished third in the 200 with a CAA-leading time of 1:50.68.

Alexander has made an immediate impact of her own on the women's side, leading the CAA in the Fly events. Against Army, Alexander broke the UNCW freshman record in the 100 Fly with a winning time of 55.6 and earned a win in the same event against Tennessee. In the 200 Fly against Tennessee, Alexander finished third with a time of 2:04.63.

Klausen, the reigning CAA Diver of the Year, rounds out the UNCW honorees. In three meets, covering six events, Klausen has won three and posted a pair of top-three finishes against Tennessee. Her season-high mark on the 3-meter board of 275.75 came against East Carolina and Richmond last weekend.

The Seahawks return to the pool on Oct. 23 when they swim against UNCA and Campbell in Buies Creek but will dive against UNCA at the Seahawk Natatorium.
