Beach Volleyball Drops Duals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UNCW opened its swing through Florida with a pair of 5-0 losses on Saturday against North Florida and national-ranked Florida State.

The Seahawks saw their record drop to 3-4 while North Florida and Florida State improved to 2-3 and 11-1, respectively.

"Casey (Goodwin) and Elena (Turnbull)played really well at the fourth paring, taking the first set and serving for multiple match points in the third set," said UNCW Associate head Coach David Fischer. "Raquel (Rooney) and Brynn (Montgomery) played with tons of energy at the top pairing, but overall, UNF, on their home court, was stronger than we were today."

"Joanmarie (JM) Lewandowski and Ashley Thompson really kept their composure at the second pairing against Florida State, and were in both sets up to the final stretch. FSU came at us with impressive jump-serving that we don't see in practice, along with some amazing defense and ball-control. They're in the hunt for a national championship and we learned a ton by competing with them today. Time to break down film and continuing to find ways to get better. We're young but players keep asking the right questions and are starting to take the right risks in matches."

Up next: The Seahawks visit Tampa for a pair of duals against the Spartans and Tusculum on Mar. 10.
