BVB: Seahawks Head To Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UNCW's beach volleyball program returns to action this weekend when it opens a week-long trip through the state of Florida against North Florida and nationally-ranked Florida State in Jacksonville.

The Seahawks carry a 3-2 mark into the week's activities, which includes two matches in Tampa and four at the Beach Burrow Bash, hosted by 13th-ranked FAU, in Boca Raton.

"Spring break is the perfect time for us to play the strong Florida schools without having to miss class, and it will be a homecoming for many of us," said UNCW Associate Head Coach David Fischer. "Chrissy Augustine, Reagan Evans, Serah O'Keefe and Lexie Hamilton, who are all playing some great ball right now.

While in Tampa, the Seahawks will play Division II members Tampa and Tusculum on Mar. 10.

UNCW opens the weekend tournament against NAIA member Webber International before facing off with the host Owls, Austin Peay and Florida Gulf Coast.

"Finally, we get to play at FAU who is off to a rousing 7-1 start. But we're not as interested in the pedigree of our opponents as we are in learning how to play cleanly, and how to develop strategies that make sense. With five freshmen in the lineup and the leadership of Raquel Rooney and Joanmarie (JM) Lewandowski, we're making huge improvements each week."

Freshman Rachel Schaffer leads UNCW with a perfect 5-0 mark on the season with all the wins coming in the fifth pairing. Schaffer and fellow freshman Katie Lanz have combined for a 3-0 record as a pairing.

Also perfect as a pairing are Casey Goodwin and Elena Turnbull, who owns a 4-1 mark of her own, at 3-0 in the third pairing.
