Beach Volleyball Splits Duals In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – UNCW split a pair of duals on Tuesday, falling in five to host Tampa before sweeping Tusculum in the nightcap.

The Seahawks halted a modest three dual losing streak with the win over Tusculum and improved to 4-5 on the season. Tampa ran its record to 8-5 while Tusculum fell to 2-3.

Against host Tampa, the two teams split the first four matches with UNCW's Brooke Hanshumaker and Elena Turnbull giving UNCW a 1-0 lead at the fourth pairing.

Trailing 2-1, Reagan Evans and Katie Lanz leveled the match at 2-all after dropping the first set at the fifth pairing before winning the next two sets and the dual.

In the deciding dual, Raquel Rooney and Brynn Montgomery forced a third set at the number one pairing with a 21-15 win. Tamps, however, clinched the dual with a 15-10 win in the third set by Julia Oswald and Rachel Rosequist.

UNCW gained a split of the day's events with a 4-1 win over Tusculum. The Seahawks rolled to a 4-0 lead with Hanshumaker and Turnbull making quick work for their second win of the day in the fourth pairing. Rooney and Montgomery clinched the match with a 21-11, 21-10 win at the first pairing.

The Seahawks continue their swing through Florida on Mar. 13 against Webber International at the Beach Burrow Bash in Boca Raton.
