Beach Volleyball Ends Weekend With Win

MACON, Ga. – UNCW closed out its Bears Beach Bash appearance on Sunday with a convincing 4-1 win over host Mercer.

The Seahawks ran their record to 3-2 with the win while the Bears slid to 1-5.

"Great win for us over Mercer, and we've still got lots of people pushing for spots in the lineup," said UNCW Associate Head Coach David Fischer. "The competition is making all of us better as we get ready for our swing through Florida next week."

Raquel Rooney and Brynn Montgomery set the tone with a 21-19, 26-24 win, their third of the young season.

UNCW added wins in the second and third pairings with Elena Turnbull and Casey Goodwin going three sets at the third pairing.

Freshman Rachel Schaffer and Katie Lanz closed out the match with a 21-17, 21-8 win in the fifth pairing.

The Seahawks visit Jacksonville, Fla., on Mar.7 for a pair pf matches against host North Florida and nationally-ranked Florida State.
