Sandyhawks head to Macon for the weekend

MACON, Ga. – UNCW returns to the court this weekend when it opens the Bears Beach Bash on Saturday with Chattanooga and Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Seahawks close out their tournament appearance on Sunday afternoon against host Mercer.

"It's our first trip to Mercer, one of the original 15 NCAA beach volleyball schools, and they've always been a scrappy team," said UNCW Associate Head Coach David Fischer. "They've played only ranked opponents, so their record is in no way a reflection of their strength.

UNCW split its opening weekend doubleheader at Coastal Carolina with both teams winning 3-2 decisions. Freshmen Serah O'Keefe and Rachel Schaffer kicked off their collegiate careers with wins in the fifth pairing.

Raquel Rooney continues her climb in the UNCW records book, entering this weekend ranked sixth all-time with 36 wins. Nicole Lott is fifth with 37.

"I like where we're at with our training, and this team supports each other so well. Looking forward to seeing what this group is capable of."
