Seahawks Post Two First Place Finishes

ROANOKE, Virginia – The UNCW women's track & field team finished second in the team standings and registered a pair of first place finishes at the Roanoke College Invitational Challenge on Saturday at the Cregger Center.
 
The Seahawks, competing for the third time this indoor season, also racked up six second place finishes at the meet, which featured 10 teams.
 
Sophomore Summer Owens captured first place in the 3,000 Meters with a time of 10:37.45. In addition, the 1,600 Meter Sprint Medley Relay team of Jahnae Bowman, Brynn Sheffield, Makiya Spencer and Kaylee Vannoy won in 4:32.81.
 
Sophomore sprinter Destiny Smith finished second in the 60 Meter Hurdles in 8.94, the seventh best time for the program. Sophomore Julianna Cavanagh placed second in the Triple Jump with a leap of 37-4, the eighth best jump in school history.
 
The Seahawks continue their indoor schedule next weekend when they travel to Lexington, Va., to compete in the VMI Winter Relays, Feb. 7-8.
