Seahawks Salute Hublitz, Savarino

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior standouts Josh Hublitz and Agustin Savarino play their final home match for the UNCW men's tennis team early Saturday when the Seahawks tie a bow on the regular season against former CAA rival VCU.

The Seahawks, 9-9, battle the Rams, 12-9, at 2 p.m. at the UNCW courts. Head Coach Mait DuBois and his club, two-time defending CAA champions and six-time CAA titlists overall, begin defense of their CAA title next weekend in Elon, N.C.

On Friday, the Seahawks renew their longtime rivalry with the Rams while bidding farewell to Hublitz and Savarino. UNCW and VCU met for the CAA championship on three occasions (2009, 2011, 2012) when the Rams were members of the conference.

Hublitz, from McLean, Va., has compiled a 9-8 doubles ledger during his time on the North Carolina Coast. Savarino, from Mar del Plata, Argentina, has gone 37-29 in singles and 33-23 in doubles.

"Both Josh and Agus have had a huge impact on our program," said DuBois. "We decided three years ago that we needed to completely reset the culture of our team and start from scratch.  I knew Josh and Agus had the type of character that we were looking for to help build our program around.

"With back to back CAA Championships, they obviously did an exceptional job in helping us get back to where we wanted to be. They both have really embraced every aspect of being a student-athlete – they have been very successful in the classroom and very active on campus and representing our team."

Savarino earned All-CAA Honors all three seasons with the team. He picked up Second-Team honors in singles in 2016 and added First-Team accolades in 2017 and 2018. He also collected Second-Team All-CAA honors in doubles in 2017.

Dubois said, "Agustin has been the heart and soul of our team for the past four years. He has had an exceptional playing career, but will be remembered for the passion that he brings to our team. He is the kind of person that has the ability to make the people around him better, and has won our Team Leadership Award every year.  He will go down in the history books with a lot of records based on his playing success, but his legacy will be the passion that he played with and the love for his team and teammates."

Hublitz is the second member of his family to play at UNCW, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Zach. The senior will complete his Master's Degree in International Business this summer.

"Josh and his family have been a part of UNCW Tennis for the past eight years," added Dubois. "His entire family has been heavily involved with our team and very committed to what we are trying to do here.  Josh has one of the strongest work ethics I have ever been around and has really set the bar for the work ethic of his teammates.  His love for tennis and for the team is one of the reasons we chose him to be one of our team captains.

"Josh has led some of our community service projects and has been very vocal as leader of our team. "

The Seahawks have won six CAA championships (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018) and advanced to the NCAA Regionals seven times (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018).
