Men's Tennis Falls 4-3 At #60 Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's David Ekpenyong held off UNCW's Tomas Marin in three sets to lift nationally-ranked Liberty past UNCW, 4-3, in men's tennis action on Saturday at the Liberty Tennis Complex.

The #60 Flames improved to 13-9, while the Seahawks fell to 10-10.

On court five, with the teams knotted at 3-all, Marin opened the match with a 7-6 (8-6) win, but Ekpenyong evened it with a 6-4 victory. In the third and final set, he earned the deciding point with a 6-3 win.

While Liberty secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, UNCW's Lukas Steffen and William Deannotched a 6-3 victory on court two.

The Flames extended the lead to 3-0 with straight-set wins on courts two and three, but Brady Hussey got the Seahawks on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win of his own for the Seahawks on court six.

On court four, Alex de Gabriele held off the clinching point with a three-set (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) win, and Steffen tied the match at 3-all with a three-set (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) victory of his own.

The Seahawks close out the regular season on Sunday in Charlotte against Tulsa at noon.
