Beach Volleyball Drops Two

CONWAY, N.C. – UNCW fell 5-0 to nationally-ranked South Carolina and later dropped a 3-2 to Coastal Carolina on Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Beach Volleyball Courts.

The Seahawks drop to 1-4 with the two losses while South Carolina and Coastal Carolina improve to 5-5 and 7-3, respectively.

Against the 10th-ranked Gamecocks, UNCW's top pairing of Maddy Kline and Jaime Thomas fell 21-19,22-20 as did Halle Hunt and Lexie Hamilton in the third pairing.

In the finale, UNCW's Raquel Rooney and Brynn Montgomery won, 21-19 and 21-13, in the second position, but CCU tied the dual with a three-set win at the fourth pairing. The Chanticleers then clinched the dual with wins at the fifth and first pairings. Hunt and Hamilton gave UNCW a win in three sets at the third pairing.

The Seahawks next compete Mar. 15-16 at the Islander Beach Volleyball Classic, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi. UNCW opens the tournament against Houston Baptist on Mar. 15 at noon EST.
