WILMINGTON, N.C. -- UNCW and nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina open a midweek home-and-home series on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start at Brooks Field. The two clubs then head to Conway for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday.
Led by a strong effort on the mound, UNCW (14-10) swept Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association season opening series at Schuerholz Park last weekend. It was the first time the Seahawks swept the Tigers, in Towson, since the 2003 season.
Coastal Carolina(18-5-1), which is ranked as high as 12th in the national polls, won its second Sun Belt Conference series, edging visiting Troy over the weekend. The Chanticleers won the first two games to clinch the series, but were unable to complete the sweep on Sunday.
Brody Lawson earned Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors after pitching the Seahawks to a series clinching win on Sunday.Lawson went a career-long 7.1 innings, allowed two hits, walked two and fanned seven. At one point he retired 18 consecutive batters in pitching into the eighth inning.
