Diamond Hawks Finish Off CAA Sweep

TOWSON, Md. – UNCW exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 5-3 deficit for an 11-6 win over Towson on Sunday in Colonial Athletic Association action at Schuerholz Park.

With the win, the Seahawks finish a sweep of its opening weekend in CAA play and run their record to 14-10 and 3-0. The sweep is also the first for UNCW at Towson since the 2003 season.

The Tigers fell to 3-18 and 0-3 with their sixth straight loss.

Jackson Meadows keyed the Seahawks at the top of the order with three hits and two runs scored. Greg Jones and Riley Zayicek both added two hits and drove in three runs. Kep Brown tripled and knocked in three.

Justin Crump (3-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for UNCW.

Richard Miller had two hits and drove in four runs for Towson. Dirk Masters added two hits.

David Tiskevics (0-1) was saddled with the loss, also in relief.

Up next: The Seahawks and Coastal Carolina play a mid-week home-and-home series beginning at Brooks Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

How it happened: Jones, Brown and Noah Bridges had RBI triples in the eight-run outburst as UNCW sent 11 hitters to the plate.

Notes: UNCW now leads the all-time series, 46-19 and is 16-11 at Towson … Jones has five triples on the season and needs one more to get into UNCW's single season top 10 … UNCW's eight runs in the sixth inning were a season high … Jones also has a nine-game hitting streak.
