Lawson Honored As Rookie of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Red-shirt freshman Brody Lawson continued his strong start to his collegiate career with a win at Towson and was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for his efforts on Monday.

Lawson, who has won his first three decisions to open his career with the Seahawks, went a career-long 7.1 innings in UNCW's 8-4 win on Saturday, clinching the series. The right hander overcame a rough start in the first inning, allowing two runs, one earned, before retiring 18 consecutive batters and pitching into the seventh inning.

Lawson walked two, scattered two hits and struck out seven before giving way to the bullpen.

Opponents are hitting just .200 against Lawson this season and he is averaging 11.17 strikeouts per nine innings with a season-high of 11 against Siena earlier in March.

The Seahawks have a five-game week ahead of them, starting on Tuesday with the first of a home-and-home midweek series with nationally ranked Coastal Carolina. Tuesday's contest is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
