Beach Volleyball Preview: UNF Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW opens its fourth season as a varsity program on Friday when the Seahawks compete in the UNF Invitational hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

Joining the Seahawks and host Ospreys are the College of Charleston and Division II member Saint Leo.

The Seahawks are led by four seniors - Maddy Kline, Halle Hunt, Katie McCullough and Anna Grauel - that laid the foundation for the program in the fall of 2015.

Kline, who is the top returning wins leader from last season, enters the season just two wins from tying UNCW's career wins mark held by Sarah Kelly (2016-18). Kline and Nicole Lott played in the top pairing and fashioned a record of 15-12. The duo competed among the nation's elite at the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships and went 2-2.

McCullough and sophomore Brynn Montgomery combined for a 12-12 record, split between the second through fourth positions.

Friday will be a round robin between the four schools and Saturday will be a pairs tournament.

The Seahawks continue their season on Mar. 9 with a quick trip to Conway, S.C., for the Coastal Carolina Duals with the host Chanticleers and nationally-ranked South Carolina.
