UNCW Tops Win Total From Last Season With Split

 
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – UNCW's pairs of Sydney Alvis/Sarah Kelly and Maddy Kline/Raquel Rooney both went 2-0 as the Seahawks split a pair of duals against North Florida and Jacksonville on Saturday at Dolphin Beach.

With the split, UNCW improved to 11-7, topping its win total of 10 from last year, their inaugural season. North Florida improved to 8-11 with a 3-2 win while host Jacksonville dipped to 5-16 with a 4-1 loss.

"Our pairs in the third (Alvis/Kelly) and fourth (Kline/Rooney) positons had outstanding afternoons," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "UNF was able to push us to three sets in four matches and ultimately won the dual. JU played scrappy defense, but we were able to battle hard and close out the win."

Against UNF, UNCW held a 2-1 lead following Alvis and Kelly's two-set win, but the Ospreys were able to win in the first and second positons to win the dual.

In the last dual of the day, the Seahawks cruised to a 4-1 win, posting straight sets victories in all four of the winning pairs.

The Seahawks will play in a pairs tournament on Sunday.
