"We played solid volleyball against Stevenson to earn a sweep, but were not able to carry that momentum into the South Carolina match," said UNCW Head Coach
Amy Bambenek. "We only have a few opportunities this season to compete against a nationally-ranked opponent and I think our players will be able to learn from that match and look to improve the next time we face the Gamecocks. Â Today we also honored our two graduate students,
Tanna Aljoe and
Emily Corrigan, and senior
Bella Borgiotti for their last home game of the season. All three have brought a tremendous amount of beach knowledge to the program and we truly appreciate their leadership and passion this season"
Against Stevenson, the Seahawks swept all five matches. The pairing of
Maddy Kline and
Raquel Rooney was the first off the court, winning by scores of 21-10, 21-10. The match was clinched by the number one pair of
Tanna Aljoe and
Nicole Lott (21-10, 21-17).
In the loss to nationally-ranked South Carolina, the number two pairing of
Emily Corrigan and
Katie McCullough was the only match that went three, falling 15-11 in the third set.
Up next for UNCW will be a pair of duals in Jacksonville, Florida, against North Florida and Jacksonville on Apr. 8.
