Beach Volleyball Splits In Regular Season Finale

 
COLUMBIA, South Carolina – UNCW earned a split of its final two duals as the Seahawks topped the College of Charleston for the first time before coming up short against Tulane on Saturday at the Palmetto Invitational.

UNCW concludes the regular season with a record of 13-9, a mark three games better than its inaugural season in 2016. CofC dropped to 11-6 with the loss while Tulane improved to 20-11.

"We made some switches to our pairings to capitalize on certain strength and it paid off in the Cofc dual," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Tanna (Aljoe) and Sarah (Kelly) were outstanding against Tulane while Maddy (Kline) and Katie (McCullough) gave a tremendous effort but came up short in the Tulane dual."

The Seahawks picked up a win over CofC as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to capture the last three matches. Charleston posted wins in the fourth and fifth positions in the lineup before Emily Corrigan and Nicole Lott swept CofC in the top spot, 21-17, 21-17. Moments later, Tanna Aljoe and Sarah Kelly won in three sets to tie the dual. Maddy Kline and Katie McCullough clinched the win with another three-set win.

In the regular season finale, UNCW dropped a 4-1 decision to Tulane. Aljoe and Kelly won their second match of the day, winning in three sets.

Next up for the Seahawks is the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championship tournament in Cartersville, Ga. The tournament opens on Apr. 21 at the LakePoint Sporting Community.
