Beach Volleyball Preview: Palmetto Invitational

 
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Beach Volleyball program plays in the Palmetto Invitational this weekend as it prepares for the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championship tournament next weekend in Cartersville, Ga.

The Seahawks enter the final weekend with a record of 11-7 after splitting two duals in Jacksonville, Fla., last weekend. UNCW was edged by North Florida (3-2) before topping Jacksonville, 4-1. UNCW's 11 wins topped the 10 wins it had in 2016, its inaugural season.

This weekend will be stern test for the Seahawks as they'll face 12th-ranked South Carolina as well as Tulane and College of Charleston, both of whom are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. UNCW opens the weekend on Friday against another second-year program in Jacksonville State.

The pairing of Sydney Alvis and Sarah Kelly lead UNCW with a 14-4 record, including a 9-3 record when playing the fourth position in the lineup. They own a 7-3 record in their last 10 outings, also a team-best. The duo went 2-0 last weekend in dual play and finished second on Sunday in the JU Pairs tournament.

UNCW's second pairing of Emily Corrigan and Katie McCullough stand at 10-8 on the season and went 3-0 to win their bracket of the JU Pairs tournament.

THE CCSA championship tournament will be played at the Rally Volleyball Complex at the LakePoint Sporting Community. The tournament opens on Apr. and runs through Apr. 23. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's bid to the NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.
