Beach Volleyball Winning Streak Now At Six

 
CHARLESTON, South Carolina – UNCW ran its winning streak to six straight with a pair of wins over Mercer and Lincoln Memorial on Friday at the CofC Beach Classic at the Creekside Club.

UNCW (8-2) topped Mercer (6-4) 3-2 in the first dual of the day and followed that up with a 5-0 victory over LMU, who dropped to 2-4.

"Mercer has been a strong team in the Atlantic Sun Conference for a while, so that was a good win," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We fell behind on each court, but were able to collect ourselves and earn the win. Sydney (Alvis) and Sarah (Kelly) led the charge and everyone else found their rhythm and fell in line. Against LMU, we were very happy with the effort across the board."

In the Mercer win, the Seahawks picked up wins at the first, second and fourth positions. Sydney Alvis and Sarah Kelly improved to 8-1 win in the fourth position while the pairing of Tanner Aljoe and Nicole Lott won in the top position to go to 7-3. Emily Corrigan and Katie McCullough won their sixth straight to move to 8-2.

The Seahawks cruised past LMU in the second dual of the day as Kati Smith and Halle Hunt won in the fifth position.

The Seahawks wrap up their tournament appearance on Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. first-serve against 18th-ranked Tulane and then a 1:30 p.m. start against Charleston.
