Postgame Notebook: Furman

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCWSports.com takes a look inside the Seahawks' road contest at Furman on Sunday afternoon with a list of postgame notes.
JUST THE FACTS: UNCW saw its record drop to 3-3 after a 76-71 setback at Furman on Sunday afternoon inside Timmons Arena.

BUSY STRETCH: The Seahawks completed a stretch of three games in five days on Sunday with their five-point loss against Furman. During the three-game run, UNCW shot 46.3 percent from the field and averaged 68.3 points per game. A trio of players – senior Madison Raque, redshirt senior Jenny DeGraaf and sophomore Lacey Suggs – each averaged 16.0 points per game while freshman Grace Sacco had a team-high 15 assists.

FOUR SCORE: The Seahawks had four players score in double figures on Sunday for the first time this season. Sophomore Lacey Suggs came off the bench to net a game-high 20 points while seniors Rebekah Banks (17 points), Madison Raque (15 points) and Jenny DeGraaf (14 points) also reached double figures.

CLOSE CALL: UNCW trailed by 22 points midway through the third quarter before mounting a comeback effort and trimming the deficit to 75-71 on a three-pointer by redshirt senior Jenny DeGraaf with 44 seconds left. The Seahawks had a couple of chances to get closer, but missed their final three field goal attempts.

BOARD MEETING: The Seahawks outrebounded Furman, 33-29, on Sunday. It marked the third time in six games this season UNCW has held the advantage on the glass.

HELPING HANDS: UNCW registered a season-high 16 assists in Sunday's loss against Furman, marking the fifth time the Seahawks have tallied 10 or more assists in a game this season. Freshman guard Grace Sacco tallied a season-high seven assists.

MAKING THEM COUNT: The Seahawks matched their season high by making 28 field goals in the loss at Furman on Sunday, equaling the 28 made field goals they had against Catawba on Friday. UNCW has tallied 20 or more made field goals in five of its six games this year.

ON SECOND THOUGHT: UNCW outscored Furman by a 42-33 margin in the second half. The Seahawks converted 16-of-32 field goal attempts after the intermission, including 6-of-15 three-pointers. Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the final 20 minutes.

POUNDING THE PAINT: The Seahawks have scored 82 points in the paint over the last two games after outscoring Furman, 38-32, in the paint on Sunday. UNCW registered a season-high 44 points in the paint against Catawba on Friday.

LEADING LADY: Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf led the Seahawks in rebounding for the fourth consecutive game after grabbing nine rebounds against Furman on Sunday. DeGraaf is averaging 8.8 rebounds per contest in the last four outings.

OH SO CLOSE, PART 1: Senior center Rebekah Banks nearly recorded a double-double in Sunday's loss at Furman, scoring a career-high 17 points with nine rebounds. The Durham, N.C., native finished with a perfect 8-for-8 showing from the field while posting her first double-digit scoring effort of the season.

OH SO CLOSE, PART 2: Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf also nearly tallied a double-double Sunday against Furman after scoring 14 points with nine rebounds. DeGraaf made 5-of-12 shots from the floor, including a 3-for-5 effort from three-point range, while playing 38 minutes.

SIX PACK: Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf recorded her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring effort on Sunday after a 14-point effort against the Paladins. DeGraaf is the first UNCW player to open a season with six straight double-digit outputs since Kelva Atkins began the 2013-14 campaign with 13 straight games of 10 or more points.

THE BIG 2-0: Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs registered her second consecutive 20-point effort after leading UNCW with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and a 4-for-6 effort at the foul line. Suggs has tallied a team-high three 20-point efforts in the first six games of the season.

THREE OF A KIND: Senior guard Madison Raque fashioned her third straight double-digit scoring performance after tallying 15 points in Sunday's loss against Furman. The Louisville, Ky., product ranks second on the team with a 13.3 scoring average.

ODDS AND ENDS: UNCW wore its teal uniforms for the second time this season … The Seahawks have lost the opening tip-off in each of their last three games … Rebekah Banks scored the Seahawks' first points of the game with a layup at the 7:58 mark of the first quarter … Lacey Suggs and Grace Sacco were the Seahawks' first substitutions, entering the game with 5:54 left in the opening period.
