Beach Volleyball Concludes Inaugural Season

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – UNCW closed out its inaugural season with loss to host South Carolina and nationally-ranked LSU on Sunday at Wheeler Beach in the Palmetto Invitational.

The Seahawks finished with a 10-15 record while South Carolina and #11-LSU improved to 11-7 and 15-6, respectively.

UNCW dropped the day's opener, 4-1, to the host Gamecocks. The paring of Sydney Alvis and Sarah Kelly earned UNCW's lone win, taking the third set, 19-17, in the fourth position.

In the season finale, LSU was able to sweep the Seahawks, 5-0.

"LSU and South Carolina are strong, established programs and we were able to go toe-to-toe with them at times during the duals," said UNCW Associate Head Coach David Fischer. "As a first-year program I'm okay with how our first season went. Our focus now is to heal and get stronger. We're a much different beach volleyball program then we were a couple of months ago. I'm very happy with our growth and excited about the potential we have as a program."
