Beach Volleyball Takes Two At Palmetto Invitational

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – UNCW edged Carson-Newman, 3-2, before dropping Coastal Carolina, 4-1, to go 2-0 on Saturday at the Palmetto Invitational hosted by South Carolina.

With the two wins, the Seahawks raised their record to 10-13 after they enter the final day of duals for the 2016 season. CNU dropped to 7-9 while Coastal fell to 2-8 with the losses.

In the opener, Ashleigh Crutcher and Maddy Kline won the third position with a 15-10 victory in the third set to lift the Seahawks past the Eagles. Bella Borgiotti and Katie McCullough chalked up a win in the one position with a 16-14 victory in the third set and the pairing of Sydney Alvis and Sarah Kelly coasted to a win with scores of 21-3 and 21-8.

Against Coastal, UNCW dropped a match at the top position, but swept through the 2-5 positions for the win. Crutcher and Kline moved up to the second position and came away with a 21-16, 21-16 win.

The Seahawks close out their season on Sunday with matches against host South Carolina and nationally-ranked LSU.
