Beach Volleyball Hosts Lone Home Event Of The Season

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's beach volleyball program hosts its lone home event of the season this weekend when Stevenson, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop compete in the UNCW Invitational beginning Saturday at Dig & Dive Grille.

The round robin portion of the schedule begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the host Seahawks taking on Stevenson in a dual match. On Sunday, there will be a pairs tournament with all pairs teams competing for a championship. That tournament will also start at 9 a.m.

The tournament field is comprised of three first-year programs and Winthrop, which will compete as an exhibition team.

The Seahawks split their last tournament at the Diggin' Duals in Atlanta, topping Lincoln Memorial and Eckerd before falling to Louisiana Monroe and nationally-ranked Georgia State.

Highlighting the UNCW effort in that tournament was the pairing of Ashleigh Crutcher and Maddy Kline. The duo combined to go 4-0 in the number three position in the lineup.

Crutcher and Kline are tied with the pairs of Nicole Lott and Kristen Powell and Halle Hunt and Sarah Kelly with six wins this spring.

Next weekend the Seahawks will face their toughest competition of the season at the Fiesta on Siesta Key in Siesta, Fla. UNCW is slated to face nationally-ranked teams in Florida State and Florida Atlantic and TCU and Louisiana Monroe.
