Beach Volleyball Makes Debut This Weekend

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's 19th and newest program will take the court this weekend when the Beach Volleyball team competes at the Stetson Spring Break Invitational in DeLand, Florida.

The Seahawks make their debut under the direction of Head Coach Amy Bambenek and Assistant Coach David Fischer on Saturday against another new program from Missouri Baptist at 10 a.m. That same day, UNCW will also play nationally-ranked Tulane at 4 p.m.

UNCW closes out its inaugural weekend on Sunday with matches against host Stetson, College of Charleston and Eckerd.

Following the tournament, the Seahawks will play North Florida and Jacksonville on March 8, in Jacksonville.

  1. Missouri Baptist is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and making its beach debut this weekend also
  2. Stetson and Tulane are ranked 10th and 18th, respectively, in the Dig Top-20 Poll
  3. A majority of the UNCW roster also plays indoor, but Beach only players include Ashleigh Crutcher, Bethany Gesell, Courtney Mullinax, Lindsey Jones and Anna Grauel
  4. Assistant Coach David Fischer headed up the Louisiana Monroe Beach program before coming to UNCW
  5. All duals are comprised of five two-person teams. Winner of dual has to win three matches. Matches are best of three with the first two games to 21, if a third game is needed, that game will be played to 15.
