Beach Volleyball Splits Duals In Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia – UNCW finished off it appearance at the Diggin' Duals tournament on Sunday with a split of two duals, clipping Eckerd, 4-1, and falling to nationally-ranked Georgia State, 4-1, at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Seahawks saw their record move to 5-10 with the Sunday split while Eckerd and Georgia State stand at 6-8 and 14-2, respectively.

UNCW beat Eckerd for the second time this season as the Seahawks won the second through fifth positions. Bella Borgiotti and Katie McCullough won their second straight match at the second position while Ashleigh Crutcher and Maddy Kline cruised to 21-17, 21-15 victory at the third position.

Georgia State earned a 4-1 win over UNCW, winning both matchups between the two programs this season. Crutcher and Kline posted UNCW's only win in the dual, rallying to win the second and third sets.

"Ashleigh (Crutcher) and Maddy (Kline) had a great weekend, going 4-0," said UNCW assistant coach David Fischer. "They are really passing and setting well and finishing off points.

"All of our pairs are getting stronger despite the results thus far. Sydney (Alvis) and Bethany (Gesell) have been jelling and it shows in their games. Overall, I'm excited that our players are learning to run themselves.

The Seahawks host the UNCW Invitational next weekend at Dig & Dive Grill.

"We can't wait to host our own event next weekend (Apr. 2-3). To show what we've been working on since January. We have a long way to go, but the improvements we've made so far are fantastic."
