Beach Volleyball Gets First Sweep, Splits Two Duals

ATLANTA, Georgia – UNCW picked up its first sweep of the season, but stumbled dropping a 3-2 decision to Louisiana Monroe as the Seahawks split their matches on Saturday atthe Diggin' Duals, hosted by Georgia State at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex.

UNCW recorded its first sweep of the season when it blanked Lincoln Memorial, another first-year program, 5-0. Four of the five matches went just two sets as Nicole Lott and Kristen Powell earned their first win in the number one positon and Bella Borgiotti and Katie McCullough did likewise in the second position. For Lott and Powell, it was their sixth overall win while Ashleigh Crutcher and Maddy Kline chalked up their fifth win of the campaign.

In the day's finale, the Seahawks were edged by Louisiana Monroe, 3-2. Borgiotti and McCullough gave UNCW a win in the second position and Crutcher and Kline did so at the third position.

"Despite losing the close one with ULM, I think we've been improving and were strong today," said UNCW assistant coach David Fischer. "ULM has been competing at a high level for four seasons and we're just getting started. We'll have to regroup and get ready for a tough Eckerd team and a rematch with eighth-ranked, Georgia State."

The Seahawks close out their tournament appearance on Saturday with a 9 a.m. start against Eckerd and a 1 p.m. first-serve against host and nationally-ranked Georgia State.
