Beach Volleyball Falls To Pepperdine, Georgia State

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – UNCW dropped a pair of matches to nationally-ranked Pepperdine and Georgia State to close out its appearance at the CofC Sand Classic on Sunday.

The Seahawks were swept, 5-0, in both matches to dip to 3-8 on the season. Four of UNCW's losses have come to nationally-ranked opponents.

Pepperdine, the top-ranked program in the nation, cruised to an 8-0 mark on the season with its win over UNCW. The Waves clinched the match in the first position as Heidi Dyer and Taylor Racich beat UNCW's Bella Borgiotti and Katie McCullough, 21-12 and 21-11.

In the day's second dual match, eighth-ranked Georgia State had to rally in the third set of two matches to pick up the win. UNCW's Kristen Powell and Nicole Lott forced a third set in the top position with a 21-19 win in the second set. GSU, however, was able to prevail in set three, 15-8. Ashleigh Crutcher and Maddyb Kline also force the Panthers to a third set before bowing, 15-13.

The Seahawks visit Atlanta, Ga., next weekend and will compete in the GSU Grand Slam, hosted by Georgia State. UNCW will play Lincoln Memorial and Louisiana Monroe on Mar. 25 and Eckerd and nationally-ranked Georgia State on Mar. 26.
