Beach Volleyball Heads To Charleston


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW beach volleyball team visits Charleston, S.C., this weekend and will compete in the CofC Sand Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. CofC is the only other school in the Colonial Athletic Association that sponsors beach volleyball.

The Seahawks have posted a 3-4 mark through seven dual matches this season and are coming off a 3-2 win at Jacksonville last week.

UNCW opens the tournament on Saturday with a rematch against host Charleston. The Cougars clipped the Seahawks, 4-1, at the Stetson Spring Break Tournament. That same day UNCW will take on UAB.

Sunday, the Seahawks will face their toughest test of the season when they take on top-ranked Pepperdine, who has raced out to a 4-0 start. Later in the day and to close out the tournament, the Seahawks face eighth-ranked, Georgia State.

UNCW has already played a pair of ranked opponents, dropping matches to Stetson and Tulane at the Stetson Spring Break Tournament.

Leading the Seahawks in the early going are the doubles teams of Nicole Lott and Kristen Powell and Halle Hunt and Sarah Kelly. Both tandems have three wins with Lott and Powell doing so in the second position and Hunt and Kelly in the fourth.

UNCW continues its road swing with the GSU Grand Slam hosted by Georgia State on March 25-26.
