WILMINGTON, North Carolina - It's back on the road for the Seahawks as they travel to a pair of non-conference contests this week. They will renew an old Colonial Athletic Association rivalry on Thursday night by traveling to Old Dominion before facing their second ACC opponent of the year on Sunday with an afternoon matinee at Clemson.

Updating the Seahawks
• The Seahawks will be trying to earn their first win of the season when they continue their road trip this weekend. Now 0-2-0 on the season, UNCW dropped a 3-2 decision at Appalachian State last Friday (recap | stats) before losing at No. 2 Virginia by an 8-0 count on Sunday afternoon (recap | stats).
• Senior forwards Maddie McCormick and Katrina Guillou accounted for the Seahawks' two goals at Appalachian State last Friday. McCormick scored in the 16th minute to give UNCW a 1-0 lead before Guillou netted a penalty kick goal in the second half for a two-goal advantage. However, the Mountaineers answered by scoring three times in the final 15:01 to spoil the Seahawks' season opener.
• McCormick's goal moved her into ninth place on the Seahawks' all-time points list, upping her career total to 46 points. The Newark, Del. native has scored 18 goals with 10 assists in her career. Meanwhile, Guillou became the seventh player in school history to reach 20 career goals when she scored at Appalachian State. It was also her fourth career penalty kick goal.
• UNCW played in one exhibition match prior to this weekend's action, dropping a 2-1 decision against North Carolina on Aug. 11 (recap | stats). McCormick scored the Seahawks' lone goal of the match, converting a pass from sophomore forward Serenity Waters in the 50th minute.
Scouting the Lady Monarchs
• The Lady Monarchs enter Thursday's game with a 1-1-0 record after splitting their first two contests of the season. After dropping a 4-2 decision at former Colonial Athletic Association rival VCU on Friday, Old Dominion bounced back with a 3-0 victory against Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
• Freshman forward Iris Achterhof had an impressive debut for the Lady Monarchs, scoring two goals in the victory over Canisius. She gave Old Dominion a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute adding a second goal with 18:07 remaining.
• Three other players have also netted a goal for Old Dominion, which has outshot its opponents by a 36-22 margin in the first two games.
• Old Dominion, which is in its third season as a member of Conference USA, was picked to finish ninth in the league.
• Coach Angie Hind is in her second season at Old Dominion after serving as the Head Women's Coach and Youth Academy Manager of Rangers F.C., a prestigious club in Glasgow, Scotland.
Scouting the Tigers
• After opening the season with a 2-0 victory over the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers will host in-state rival South Carolina on Friday night prior to welcoming UNCW to their home field on Sunday.
• The Tigers, who had their season opener against Texas canceled due to inclement weather last Friday night, used a goal in each half to earn the shutout win over the Cougars. Freshman forward Patrice DiPasquale opened the scoring by netting the first goal of her college career in the 34th minute. Freshman midfielder Lauren Harkes added her first career goal in the 60th minute to increase the advantage to 2-0.
• Junior goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan did not need to make a save en route to securing the shutout as Clemson outshot Charleston by a commanding 17-4 margin.
• Ranked 23rd in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I rankings, the Tigers return nine starters from last year's team that reached the NCAA Tournament. Clemson posted a 13-3-3 record and earned its first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 2007.
• Defense was the calling card for Coach Eddie Radwanski's team last year as the Tigers allowed a school-record 10 goals in 19 matches.
UNCW vs. Old Dominion History
• UNCW and Old Dominion will be meeting for the 22nd time in a series the Lady Monarchs lead by an 11-9-1 margin. However, this will be the first time they meet as non-conference opponents after Old Dominion joined Conference USA for the 2013 season.
• After losing 10 of the first 14 meetings in the series, the Seahawks have claimed a win in five of the last six contests, including a 5-0 victory on Oct. 7, 2012 at UNCW Soccer Stadium. They also earned a 2-1 win over Old Dominion on Sept. 28, 2008 when the Lady Monarchs were ranked 25th in the nation.
• The teams faced each other in a pair of postseason contests. Old Dominion defeated UNCW by a 3-0 score on Nov. 2, 1995 in the CAA semifinals before the Seahawks edged the Lady Monarchs by a 3-2 count in overtime on Nov. 5, 1998 in a CAA semifinal contest.

UNCW vs. Clemson Series History
• UNCW and Clemson will be meeting for the first time in women's soccer on Sunday afternoon. Including the exhibition match against North Carolina, Clemson will be the third of four Atlantic Coast Conference opponents this season as the Seahawks will also travel to Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Packing Their Bags
• The Seahawks are in the midst of playing their first six games on the road when they visit Old Dominion and Clemson this week. UNCW's regular season home opener will not take place until Friday, Sept. 11 against Richmond.
• This will mark the third time in the last five years UNCW has opened the season with a six-game road trip. In 2003, the Seahawks played six consecutive games away from UNCW Soccer Stadium, including a trio of contests at East Carolina. UNCW also played six straight contests away from home to begin the 2011 campaign.
• In 1998, the Seahawks played in a school-record nine consecutive games away from home. During the 1999 season, the Seahawks finished the year by playing seven straight games on the road, including a pair of neutral-site contests as part of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
Seahawks Picked to Finish Fifth in CAA; Trio Recognized as Part of Preseason All-CAA Team
• The Seahawks were picked to finish fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association standings in a vote of the league's head coaches. Northeastern University was selected as the preseason favorite to repeat as the CAA champion.
• In addition, a trio of UNCW players - seniors Katrina Guillou, Morgan Leyble and Stephanie Bronson - were listed among the players recognized on the Preseason All-CAA Team. Guillou earned a spot on the team while Leyble and Bronson were honorable mention picks.
• A second team All-CAA pick last year, Guillou was the sixth-leading scorer in the conference after recording 18 points. She ranked fourth in the CAA with eight goals while starting all 18 matches. As a sophomore, she earned first team all-league notice after scoring 10 goals with six assists.
• Meanwhile, Leyble received third team All-CAA accolades last year while starting 17 of 18 matches. She tallied a goal in the Seahawks' 3-2 overtime victory over Wake Forest and posted an assist in a victory over Charlotte. A three-year starter for Coach Paul Cairney, Leyble was named to the All-CAA second team as a sophomore.
• A two-time all-conference selection, Bronson returns to the field after missing all of last year. She was a first team All-CAA honoree after scoring five goals with two assists during the 2013 season. In addition, she received a spot on the 2012 All-CAA third team.
Up Next for the Seahawks ... • The Seahawks will finish their six-match road trip next weekend by competing in the George Mason Tournament. After facing the host Patriots on Friday, Sept. 4, they will play UMBC in a neutral site match on Sunday, Sept. 6 at George Mason Stadium.
