We Are UNCW feature on Mark Scalf | Tar Heels Edge Seahawks In 12 Innings, 6-5
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW visits North Carolina on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. start as both teams wrap up their regular season this week.

The Seahawks are coming off a sweep at the hands of the College of Charleston as the Cougars claimed their first Colonial Athletic Association regular season title over the weekend at Patriots Point.

The sweep was the first for UNCW since the 2011 when they dropped three at James Madison.

The Seahawks are still in second place, two games ahead of Northeastern, who hosts Charleston next weekend in the regular season finale for both teams. UNCW needs a win or a NU loss to claimed second place and earn a bye in the opening round of the CAA Championship tournament later this month.

UNCW was unable to figure out the CofC offense all weekend as Charleston plated 29 runs and hit .352 for the series. Seahawk pitchers combined for a dismal 9.75 ERA over the three games.

While the Cougars rolled offensively, the staff walked just four hitters and struck out 25. UNCW hit .257 and compiled a .306 on base average.

Gavin Stupienski led UNCW with a .417 batting average while only three players hit better than .300 for the series.

UNCW continues its brief four-game road stretch with a 6 p.m. start on Tuesday at North Carolina, who suffered a road sweep of its own, falling in all three at Notre Dame.

The Seahawks and Tar Heels played a 12-inning classic earlier this season with UNC taking a 6-5 decision on a balk in the 12th inning.

UNCW wraps up the CAA season beginning Thursday when it opens a three-game conference series with James Madison.
