Seahawks Whip Camels In Swimming Action

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW opened the 2015 semester on the right foot as Sara Smith won two events and UNCW won nine overall, in a 163-130 win over visiting Campbell in women's swimming action on Sunday at the Seahawk Natatorium.

For UNCW it was its first dual meet win of season and an impressive follow up to its second-place finish at the Patriot Invitational to close out the fall semester in November. Campbell dropped to 4-7 with the setback.

Smith posted winning times in the 200 Fly and Breaststroke with times of 2:07 and 2:26.63, respectively.

Also winning an event and swimming on UNCW's winning 400 Medley Relay were Chelsea Tomko, Hannah Stephenson and Jenson Engen. Tomko won the 50 Free (24.84), Stephenson the 100 Backstroke (58.56) and Engen added a win in the 100 Breaststroke.

Danielle Binkauskas took first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:29.98.

In diving, Rachel McCormick took first-place honors in both the 1 and 3-meter boards.

The Seahawks return to the pool on Jan. 17, at Wingate.
