UNCW Prominent In NCAA Baseball Rankings

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW concluded the 2012 season ranked in the top 30 nationally in nine offensive categories and six players posted top-50 finishes statistically.

Aided with the return of six players in the everyday lineup, the Seahawks finished 11th in home runs with 56. College World Series participant Florida led the nation with 75. Leading that charge in the power department was junior Tyler Molinaro, who ranked 15th with 16 round trippers to his credit. Senior Andrew Cain narrowly missed a top-50 ranking with 12 homers, finishing 53rd.

The Seahawks also finished 12th with 657 hits and combined slug .450, checking in at 13th.

While the power was there, so was the speed as UNCW recorded 103 stolen bases, surpassing the 100-stolen base mark for the first time since 2006. The Seahawks finished 12 with those 103 swipes.

Proving the Seahawks were a solid offensive unit from top to bottom was the performance of sophomore Andrew Farber, whose 18 sacrifice bunts ranked him 11th.

On the mound, senior Tyler McSwain's nine wins ranked him 37th and sophomore Mat Batts' 16 starts placed him 33rd.

UNCW finished the season with a 3.58 ERA, shaving nearly 1.8 runs per game off its ERA in 2011. Leading that charge was UNCW's 1-2 combination of McSwain (3.18) and Batts (3.04).
