Seahawks Fall To Wolfpack, 7-4

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sherman Johnson homered twice to lift NC State to a 7-4 win over visiting UNCW on Tuesday in non-conference action at Doak Field.

NC State improved to 22-11 with the win, while the Seahawks fell to 19-13 with the loss.

After UNCW grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer by Josh Martinez, the Wolfpack answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame for a 6-4 lead.

Francesco Capocci (1-3) walked the leadoff hitter, Ty Head, and he moved around to third on an errant pickoff throw by Capocci. DeCarlo was hit one batter later, and the tying run came across on a wild pitch by reliever Clay Masonis. With two out, McHugh and Fraasman had back-to-back RBI singles to make it 6-4.

Trevor Lucas finished with two doubles for the Seahawks.

Aidan Kitchings was credited with the win for NCSU to move to 1-0. Cooper Consiglio notched his third save.

The Seahawks visit CAA South Division leader Campbell this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Apr. 10 at 6 p.m.
