Carolina - Senior Josh Brock tied a school-record by finishing 15-under-par
and winning medalist honors at the Riverlanding Intercollegiate on Saturday at
the Riverlanding Golf Club. The Seahawks finish fourth overall.
Brock entered the final round with a four-stroke lead and
held off a charge from NC State's Albin Choi to win the tournament by two
strokes. For Brock, it was his second title of the spring and the third of his
career. He won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in a one-hole playoff.
Brock tied the UNCW record for lowest score with a
three-round total of 201, matching former standout Derek Wallace's 201,
15-under, score set in 2008 at the Kauai Intercollegiate.
East Carolina won the team championship by three strokes over Liberty.
The Seahawks (289-285-282=856) entered Saturday in fourth
and finished that way when they carded a final round score of 282. UNCW edged
24th-ranked NC State for fourth by three strokes.
Freshman Payne McLeod (74-72-71=217) was UNCW's only other
top-20 finish, tying for 19th.
Sophomore Taylor Zimmerman (74-72-72=218) fashioned his best
finish of the year with a 22nd-place showing as an individual.
The Seahawks visit Georgia Tech next weekend for the Georgia Tech Intrercollegiate.
