WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington
junior catcher Cody Stanley was named to the All-Cape Cod Baseball League team
on Monday after helping lead Cotuit to the championship series last week.
Stanley finished the summer season with a .299 batting average in the
pitching-dominated league and collected 11 extra base hits, including nine
doubles. He fashioned a .409 on base average and a .443 slugging percentage.
"Cody is a fine gentleman and was a pleasure to be around and work with
this summer," said Cotuit coach Mike Roberts, who previously was the head coach
at UNC Chapel Hill for 21 seasons and won 780 games. "Cody also is an
exceptional athlete for the position he plays (catcher)."
The left-handed hitting catcher from Clinton, N.C., also represented
Cotuit and UNCW in the league's all-star game at historic Fenway Park.
In the championship series, Stanley showed his athleticism by moving to
centerfield for the Kettleers, who saw their roster dwindle to just nine
position players for the playoffs. Stanley responded with a .250 batting
average, scored five runs and knocked in five as Cotuit topped Orleans in the
playoff round but fell to a solid Bourne squad, which featured Seahawks Cameron
Roth and Stephen Harrold, in the finals.
